Marrybrown plans 30 new Malaysian outlets by 2027 and a Cambodia debut in November 2026, strengthening its international franchise network and targeting further growth across emerging markets.
Malaysian quick-service restaurant chain Marrybrown plans to open 30 new outlets across Malaysia by 2027 and make its Cambodia debut in November 2026, as the halal fast-food brand accelerates domestic growth and expands its international franchise network.
Marrybrown Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Daniel Chan Lek Seong announced the domestic expansion plans on October 17, 2026, following the launch of the Road to Franchise International Malaysia 2027 programme in Johor Bahru. The company currently operates approximately 300 outlets in Malaysia, including around 100 in Johor, its home state.
Founded in Johor Bahru in 1981, Marrybrown has grown from a Malaysian fast-food business into an international franchise brand. The company operates approximately 500 outlets across 16 countries, according to its latest expansion update, with a presence spanning Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
The planned Malaysian openings will strengthen its presence in an established market, while the Cambodia launch will extend its reach in Southeast Asia. Renovation work is underway ahead of the first restaurant’s scheduled opening in November 2026.
Marrybrown’s Cambodia entry follows expansion plans announced in June 2024, when the company signed memoranda of understanding with SP QSR and Food Services Co. Ltd and Gemilang International Limited to explore opportunities in Cambodia and Uzbekistan. The agreements outlined plans to establish more than 30 outlets across the two markets over five years.
The company has also pursued expansion in Egypt through a franchise agreement with Talaat Moustafa Retail, a subsidiary of Egyptian real estate and hospitality group Talaat Moustafa Group. Announced in February 2026, the agreement established a framework for opening 100 Marrybrown outlets in Egypt over 10 years, with an initial six locations in Cairo targeted for 2026.
The Egypt partnership reflects Marrybrown’s strategy of working with local operators to establish and scale its restaurant concept in international markets. Local partners can provide market knowledge, access to suitable locations and operational expertise, while the franchisor contributes its brand, menu and established operating model.
Marrybrown was founded by Malaysian entrepreneurs Lawrence Liew and Nancy Liew. Over more than four decades, the company has developed a franchise-led growth strategy built around its halal positioning and a menu combining international fast-food favourites with Malaysian-inspired offerings.
Its menu includes fried chicken, burgers and rice-based meals, including local favourites such as nasi lemak. The combination of familiar quick-service products and regional flavours supports the brand’s approach to serving consumers across markets with different dining preferences.
The company is also focusing on its domestic supply chain as it expands. Chan said approximately 90% of its raw materials are sourced locally from Malaysian suppliers, including small and medium-sized enterprises. Marrybrown is seeking to maintain affordable menu prices while expanding its restaurant network.
Malaysia remains central to the company’s growth plans, with infrastructure and investment developments in Johor expected to support commercial activity. These include the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link.
Alongside its planned domestic openings, Marrybrown has identified further international markets for potential expansion, reflecting its ambition to add new territories through partnerships. The company has indicated that it evaluates three to five potential country markets annually, depending on business opportunities and the availability of suitable partners.
With 30 additional Malaysian outlets targeted by 2027, a Cambodia opening planned for November 2026 and a long-term expansion agreement in Egypt, Marrybrown is pursuing a multi-market growth strategy that combines domestic development with international franchising.
