Basking Babies’ First Scottish Franchise Celebrates Successful First Year

Date:

One year after launching Basking Babies in Scotland, franchisee Lisa Selman has built a thriving business in a market where few people had previously heard of the brand, demonstrating how determination, strong local relationships and community-building can create success in entirely new territories.

Lisa, who covers East Renfrewshire and the south of Glasgow, became Basking Babies’ first Scottish franchisee in June 2025. Since then, she has steadily grown her business, secured partnerships with premium local venues and developed a loyal customer base through word-of-mouth recommendations.

Before joining Basking Babies, Lisa spent many years working in finance before making a career change to support children and families. Her experience spans children’s residential care, nursery education and supporting children with additional support needs (ASN). As a qualified Early Years Practitioner, she brings extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in nurturing children’s learning and development.

Seeking a role that would allow her to continue working with children while offering greater flexibility around family life, Lisa discovered Basking Babies and immediately recognised a strong fit with both her professional background and personal values.

As the first franchisee to introduce Basking Babies to Scotland, Lisa has played a key role in establishing the brand in a completely new market. Working closely with the head office team, she has focused on raising awareness, building relationships within the local community and helping more families discover the benefits of Basking Babies’ classes and support services.

Reflecting on her first year in business, Lisa said: “The first year has definitely been a learning curve. There have been moments when I’ve doubted myself, but I’ve learned so much about running a business. Looking back, I’m proud of how hard I’ve worked, the connections I’ve built within my local community and the relationships that have developed through the classes.”

Having successfully launched the brand in a territory without nearby franchise support, Lisa also has advice for others considering a similar opportunity: “My nearest franchisee is more than 100 miles away, and I have three tips for anyone in the same position:

  1. Don’t be afraid to lean on the support team. Even if the brand isn’t yet well known in your area, following the proven business model will help you build trust and credibility.
  2. Make the most of virtual communication. You may not be able to meet fellow franchisees regularly, but group chats, calls and one-to-one conver’sations are invaluable for sharing ideas and support.
  3. Take every opportunity to attend face-to-face meetings. They’re a fantastic way to strengthen relationships, exchange best practice and gain insights that can help grow your business.”

Looking ahead, Lisa plans to continue expanding her offering through Mum-to-Be Nurture Circles, her growing Mum & Bump Hub sessions and additional community-focused groups designed to bring more parents together.

Carla Davison, founder of Basking Babies, said: “Lisa has shown tremendous determination throughout her first year in business. Launching a brand in a completely new region takes confidence, resilience and commitment, and she has embraced that challenge wholeheartedly. She represents exactly the kind of franchisee we love to welcome into the network. We’re incredibly proud of everything she has achieved so far and excited to see how she continues to grow the brand across Scotland.”
