Big Apple Donuts Hits 100 Stores in Malaysia, Targets 10 More in 2027

Date:

Malaysia-born donut and coffee chain Big Apple Donuts & Coffee has opened its 100th Malaysian store, marking 19 years of operations and setting its sights on further franchise-led expansion, including 10 additional outlets planned for 2027.

Big Apple Donuts & Coffee has reached 100 stores in Malaysia with the opening of a new outlet at IOI Mall Puchong in Selangor on October 10, 2026. The milestone highlights the brand’s growth since launching in 2007 and its continued focus on expanding its domestic footprint through a combination of company-owned and franchised locations.

To celebrate, the chain is offering two pandan-flavoured doughnuts, Ola Pandan and Dreamy Pandan, for RM1 each at outlets nationwide until October 31, while stocks last. The promotion is limited to in-store purchases, with 100 pieces available per outlet daily, and is not available through delivery applications.

Founded in Malaysia, Big Apple opened its first store at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya, in 2007. The company has since built a network of 100 outlets across Malaysia and 10 stores in Cambodia, giving it a presence in two Southeast Asian markets. The brand is preparing to mark its 20th anniversary in 2027.

“Big Apple was born in Malaysia 19 years ago, and every one of our 100 stores was built on the support of Malaysian customers, our team and our franchise partners. This milestone belongs to them, and we are deeply grateful,” said Yasuo Mizoguchi, Managing Director of Big Apple Donuts & Coffee.

The company plans to open another 10 stores across Malaysia in 2027, extending its reach as competition intensifies in the food and beverage sector. It is also inviting prospective franchise partners to join its expansion, positioning franchising as part of its strategy to grow the business.

“The F&B scene keeps changing, and customers have more choice than ever. To stay relevant, we keep listening to them. One hundred stores is a milestone, not a finish line,” Mizoguchi said.

The chain aims to strengthen its nationwide presence and work towards becoming Malaysia’s leading doughnut brand. Its expansion strategy will focus on responding to changing consumer preferences while building on its established domestic network.

Big Apple Donuts & Coffee’s franchise model offers a route for the company to expand its store network with the support of local business partners. However, the company has not disclosed the current split between franchised and company-operated outlets or detailed the investment requirements for prospective franchisees.

The brand’s presence in Cambodia also provides a foundation for its regional footprint beyond Malaysia, although no additional international markets or expansion targets have been announced as part of the latest milestone.

With 100 Malaysian stores, 10 outlets in Cambodia and another 10 Malaysian openings planned for 2027, Big Apple Donuts & Coffee is looking to build on its homegrown identity while pursuing further growth in Southeast Asia. Its next phase will depend on maintaining consumer appeal, strengthening franchise partnerships and competing in an increasingly crowded food and beverage market.
