Coca-Cola Commits $650 Million to Scale Fairlife as Dairy Demand Surges

Date:

The Coca-Cola Company has announced a $650 million investment to expand production capacity for its fast-growing dairy brand Fairlife, underlining the company’s increasing focus on high-growth, value-added beverage categories.

The investment will be directed toward the company’s Coopersville, Michigan manufacturing facility, where Coca-Cola plans to significantly scale operations to meet rising consumer demand for premium dairy products.

The project includes the addition of approximately 245,000 square feet of production space and the installation of two new high-speed production lines. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with commercial production from the expanded lines targeted for 2028.

The expansion will also generate around 150 new jobs, strengthening Coca-Cola’s manufacturing footprint in the U.S. Midwest.

Backed by Strong Demand for Premium Dairy

Fairlife, known for its ultra-filtered, lactose-free milk and protein shakes, has emerged as a major growth engine within Coca-Cola’s portfolio. The brand has benefited from rising consumer interest in high-protein and functional beverages, helping it scale rapidly in a category that has otherwise seen slower growth.

Coca-Cola’s decision to expand capacity reflects what the company describes as ‘significant growth’ for Fairlife, with demand outpacing current production capabilities.

Strategic and Regional Impact

The Coopersville facility, operational since 2012 and already employing more than 400 people, is one of Michigan’s largest dairy processing sites.

The expansion is supported by state-level incentives and infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to local water systems to support industrial growth.

Beyond job creation, the project is expected to:

  • Strengthen regional dairy supply chains, including local farmers
  • Reinforce Michigan’s position as a food and agribusiness hub
  • Support long-term manufacturing capacity for Coca-Cola’s dairy portfolio

Broader Growth Strategy

The Michigan expansion is part of a wider push by Coca-Cola to scale Fairlife globally. The company is also preparing to open a new Fairlife production facility in Webster, New York, further expanding its dairy footprint in North America.

Coca-Cola’s $650 million commitment signals confidence in Fairlife’s trajectory and reinforces the company’s strategy to diversify beyond carbonated drinks into nutrition-led, value-added segments.
