Jimmy John’s Franchise, LLC has appointed Darin Dugan as its new Brand President, marking a significant leadership transition at the rapidly expanding sandwich brand. Dugan, who has served as Chief Marketing Officer for the past six years, takes the helm from James North, who is moving into a newly created role as the chain’s Global Brand Ambassador.
The leadership change, announced this week by parent company Inspire Brands LLC, underscores the brand’s focus on strategic growth, integrated marketing, menu innovation and global market expansion. Dugan becomes only the third individual to lead Jimmy John’s since its founding in 1983.
“Darin has brought creativity and discipline together by modernizing campaigns, elevating the menu, and launching new, brand‑defining product platforms, including wraps and toasted sandwiches,” said Scott Murphy, Inspire Brands Chief Brand Officer and President of Dunkin’. “He’s a passionate leader with a deep understanding of what makes this brand so special.”
Strategic Leadership Moves
In addition to Dugan’s promotion, Inspire Brands also named Kate Carpenter as Jimmy John’s new Chief Marketing Officer. Carpenter, who most recently served as Vice President of Integrated Marketing for the chain, brings experience from major consumer brands including Newell Brands, Papa John’s International and The Coca‑Cola Company.
North, who led the brand for more than two decades, will use his deep institutional knowledge to support franchise development and represent the brand in international markets. Under his leadership, Jimmy John’s expanded to more than 2,800 locations globally and entered key overseas markets in recent years.
Growth and Expansion Context
Founded by Jimmy John Liautaud in 1983, Jimmy John’s has grown into a major player in the quick‑service segment with 2,600+ restaurants across the U.S., Canada, El Salvador, South Korea and other markets. The brand, known for its fast‑service sandwiches and strong franchise system, is part of Inspire Brands, one of the largest restaurant companies worldwide.
The promotion aligns with Jimmy John’s broader strategy to strengthen marketing and operational leadership as it continues to scale. Recently, the brand has emphasized updated menu offering, such as its toasted sandwich lineup and enhanced consumer engagement programs to drive frequency and market relevance.
Based in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Inspire Brands owns a portfolio of restaurant concepts including Arby’s, Baskin‑Robbins, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’ and Sonic Drive‑In. The organization operates more than 33,000 restaurants globally and is backed by private equity firm Roark Capital Group.
