Yum! Brands has announced that Tracy Skeans, Chief Operating Officer and Chief People & Culture Officer, will retire after more than 25 years with the company, marking the end of a career that helped shape the global restaurant giant’s operational, cultural and leadership framework. Skeans will remain in her current role through the end of 2026 before transitioning into an advisory position to support leadership succession and strategic initiatives.
The announcement comes as Yum! Brands continues a broader leadership transition under CEO Chris Turner, who succeeded long-time chief executive David Gibbs in 2025. Yum! operates more than 63,000 restaurants across over 155 countries through brands including KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill.
According to the company, Skeans joined Yum! Brands in 2000 as a finance analyst and steadily advanced through a series of leadership roles spanning finance, human resources, transformation and international operations. She played a key role in building talent strategies, driving organizational transformation and helping the company evolve into a more asset-light, franchise-focused global restaurant business.
Skeans spent more than a decade within the Pizza Hut system, serving in senior finance and people leadership positions before becoming Chief People Officer for Pizza Hut U.S., Global Chief People Officer and eventually President of Pizza Hut International. In that role, she oversaw operations across more than 85 countries and thousands of restaurants worldwide.
In 2016, she joined Yum!’s executive leadership team as Chief Transformation & People Officer, where she helped lead the company’s transition to a pure-play franchisor model while strengthening its talent and culture agenda. She also played a significant role during the COVID-19 pandemic, the integration of Habit Burger & Grill, and the company’s broader digital and operational transformation initiatives.
Announcing the retirement, Chris Turner praised Skeans’ contribution to the organization, saying: “Over a remarkable 25-year career at Yum!, Tracy has been instrumental in shaping the company’s operational excellence model, culture, talent and long-term growth strategy.”
He added that her leadership was critical during several of the company’s most important milestones, including its transition into a focused global franchisor and the strengthening of enterprise-wide capabilities and culture.
Reflecting on her tenure, Tracy Skeans said: “Yum! has been a defining part of my career for more than 25 years, and I’m proud to have helped shape the company through some of its most important moments of growth and transformation.” She further noted that working alongside the company’s leadership team, franchisees and employees around the world helped strengthen the business and reinforce the culture that has become a hallmark of Yum!’s global system.
Yum! Brands said Skeans’ responsibilities will ultimately be divided between a future Chief People & Culture Officer and a Chief Scale Officer, with searches underway for both positions. Following her departure from day-to-day leadership duties, she is expected to continue supporting the company in an advisory capacity through early 2028 to ensure a smooth transition.
The retirement marks the departure of one of Yum!’s longest-serving senior executives and closes a chapter in the company’s evolution from a traditional restaurant operator into one of the world’s largest franchise-focused restaurant groups.
