International quick-service restaurant (QSR’s) brands Bonchon and Little Caesars have entered the Malaysian market, underscoring the country’s growing appeal as a destination for global foodservice expansion and franchise investment across Southeast Asia.
The dual market entries mark significant milestones for both brands as they pursue aggressive international growth strategies, with Malaysia emerging as a key gateway for regional expansion.
Little Caesars Debuts in Malaysia with Nationwide Growth Plans
US-based pizza giant Little Caesars has opened its first Malaysian restaurant in Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, marking the brand’s official entry into the country. The opening is the first step in a broader rollout strategy, with multiple additional locations planned across Malaysia in the coming months.
Founded in 1959 and headquartered in Detroit, Little Caesars is one of the world’s largest pizza chains, operating restaurants across more than 30 countries and territories. The company is widely known for its HOT-N-READY pizza platform and value-driven quick-service model.
The Malaysian launch introduces the brand’s signature products, including the HOT-N-READY Classic Pepperoni Pizza and Crazy Puffs Pepperoni, while also incorporating localized menu offerings such as Chicken Hawaiian, 3 Cheese Edge to Edge, and Classic Veggie pizzas to cater to local tastes.
“Launching in Malaysia marks an exciting milestone as we continue to grow our global footprint,” said Paula Vissing, President and CEO, Global Retail. “We’re thrilled to introduce Malaysian guests to our delicious offerings made with fresh ingredients and incredible value. With Malaysia’s dynamic food culture and strong sense of community, we’re excited to become part of this thriving market.”
The Malaysian expansion is being led by franchise partners Dato’ Vincent Choo and Datin Cynthia Cheong, experienced multi-brand QSR operators in the country.
“We’re proud to introduce Little Caesars to Malaysia and share its world-famous pizza with our community,” the franchise partners said. “We believe there is strong demand for high-quality, affordable pizza, and we’re excited to bring something new and exciting to the local dining scene.”
Bonchon Adds Malaysia to International Network
Meanwhile, Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon has launched its first Malaysian outlet in Kuala Lumpur, extending its presence to nine countries as the company approaches the milestone of 500 restaurants globally.
The move reflects Bonchon’s continued international momentum amid rising consumer demand for Korean cuisine and culture worldwide. The company said its recent growth has been driven by menu innovation, technology investments, and a refreshed restaurant design strategy.
“These wins reflect the strength of our menu and brand, the dedication of our franchise partners and the growing appetite for Korean cuisine,” said Suzie Tsai, CEO of Bonchon. “Malaysia is an exciting next step for us as we continue bringing Bonchon to new communities while supporting our partners’ long-term success.”
Bonchon has also reported an 18% increase in digital sales and continues to expand across the United States, with new restaurants planned in Southern California, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Nashville and Atlanta. The brand is also preparing to enter Puerto Rico and open locations in two US airports.
Malaysia Emerges as Regional Franchise Growth Hub
The arrival of Bonchon and Little Caesars highlights Malaysia’s growing appeal to international franchisors seeking expansion opportunities in Southeast Asia. With one brand nearing 500 global franchise restaurants and the other operating a network of more than 5,000 locations worldwide, the market entries reinforce confidence in Malaysia’s consumer market and long-term franchise growth potential.
For both brands, Malaysia represents more than a new market entry, it serves as a strategic platform for strengthening their presence across Southeast Asia, where demand for international quick-service dining concepts remains robust.
