Potato Corner Steps Up Laos Expansion with New Vientiane Location

Date:

Potato Corner has expanded its presence in Laos with a new outlet at KokKok Mega Mall in Vientiane, strengthening the Philippine snack brand’s footprint in the country following its earlier opening at KokKok Mega Mart. The latest store was opened in partnership with Grandview Property Sole.

The new location adds another Vientiane site for Potato Corner as the brand builds its presence in Laos through a local partnership model. KokKok Mega Mall’s own directory confirms Potato Corner as a tenant on the first floor of the West Wing, describing the brand as a Philippine-founded flavoured-fries concept serving freshly cooked fries with its signature seasonings.

The opening follows Potato Corner’s planned entry into Laos announced by its parent company, Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. (SPAVI), in July 2025. SPAVI said at the time that it was bringing Potato Corner to Taiwan and Laos, identifying both as markets with growth potential.

SPAVI President and CEO Vicente Gregorio said the company expected its international business to deliver healthy growth, with Potato Corner positioned as one of the key brands driving that expansion. He said SPAVI was already operating in 15 markets outside the Philippines with around 400 international Potato Corner stores at the time.

The Laos expansion is part of a broader international push for Potato Corner. SPAVI reported 2,671 units across its global network at the end of March 2025, with international operations accounting for close to one-fifth of the network. The group added 52 net new units during the first quarter, with the majority coming from Potato Corner.

SPAVI had also set a target of adding at least 430 stores across its portfolio during 2025, covering both the Philippines and overseas markets.

For its international franchise system, Potato Corner says it looks for partners with experience in F&B operations, retail or hospitality, along with the financial capacity and operational capability to develop multiple stores. Its current international programme calls for prospective partners to sign a 20-store development franchise agreement.

The Philippine Franchise Association lists Potato Corner’s international master-franchise model with a US$100,000–US$150,000 territory fee, depending on market, and a US$100,000–US$200,000 total investment package. The listed international terms include a 6% royalty fee, 3% marketing fund contribution, five-year franchise term and typical outlet size of 15–25 square metres.

The latest Vientiane opening also provides Potato Corner with a presence inside a major retail destination. KokKok Mega Mall currently lists the brand alongside its dining offerings and identifies the Vientiane location at Kaysone Phomvihane Road, Sibounheuang Village, Chanthabouly District, Vientiane Capital.

The expansion comes as Potato Corner continues to build its international network through local partners. Founded in the Philippines in 1992, the brand is owned by SPAVI and has grown from its original flavoured-fries kiosk concept into an international franchise business. The Philippine Franchise Association currently describes the brand as having more than 2,000 stores across 15 countries, although SPAVI’s own 2025 reporting separately put the international Potato Corner network at about 400 stores.

With the new KokKok Mega Mall location, Potato Corner is adding another operating point in Vientiane and moving further into the Lao market following its initial entry. The opening also demonstrates SPAVI’s strategy of using international franchise partnerships to take its Filipino brands into markets beyond the Philippines.
