EverBrands Invests $15 Million to Expand Subway Footprint across India

Date:

EverBrands, the master franchise operator for Subway in India, has secured $15 million in fresh capital to accelerate the brand’s expansion across the country and strengthen its quick service restaurant footprint.

The investment was led by Playbook Partners, from its specialised India growth fund, which focuses on high-potential consumer and retail businesses. As part of the deal, Playbook has acquired a five percent stake in EverBrands, signalling confidence in the long-term growth prospects of the Subway network in the subcontinent.

Subway first opened in India in 2000, with its maiden outlet in Saket, New Delhi, and over the past two decades has grown steadily into one of the country’s most recognised sandwich chains. In recent years, Everstone Group, the private equity firm, acquired the master franchise rights for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, and has propelled the business forward.

Since 2022, Subway India has surpassed 1,000 stores, expanded into over 165 cities, and created more than 3,500 jobs, making it one of the fastest-expanding quick serve franchise operations in the region.

The new funding is expected to fuel further store openings, deepen market penetration, especially in tier II and tier III cities, and enhance digital and delivery capabilities as consumer demand continues to rise.

“India will account for a significant share of global economic growth in the decade ahead,” said Vikas Choudhury, founder and managing partner of Playbook Partners, emphasising the strategic importance of the Indian growth story for global brands.

Industry experts say the QSR sector in India is rapidly evolving, with rising urbanisation and increased spending on dining out presenting lucrative opportunities for international brands that can localise flavours and formats. Subway’s latest funding round reflects broader investor interest in the Indian food and beverage space, where scalability and customer loyalty are key drivers of value.
