Beams to Open Flagship Store in Los Angeles, Expands US Footprint

Date:

Japanese fashion and lifestyle retailer Beams has announced plans to open a flagship store in Los Angeles, marking a key milestone in its expansion into the United States market and reinforcing its broader global strategy.

The new permanent location will span approximately 1,250 sqm on a single floor, serving as Beams’ North American base of operations and showcasing its curated fashion and lifestyle concept to a wider American audience.

The Los Angeles store will feature a wide assortment of apparel, accessories and lifestyle goods under Beams’ signature “select shop” format, blending the company’s own sub‑brands alongside products sourced from global partners. This format reflects the brand’s long‑standing philosophy of combining fashion with cultural and community experiences.

Strategic Expansion into North America

Beams’ US move builds on a phased approach that began with the establishment of Beams America, a local subsidiary created in 2024 to oversee operations, retail development and brand initiatives across the region. The company also launched a dedicated North American e‑commerce site in 2025, giving US customers direct access to Beams’ extensive product range online and test‑marketing consumer demand ahead of the flagship opening.

In the run‑up to the permanent store, Beams held three pop‑up stores in Los Angeles and a series of temporary retail activations, helping the brand gauge local interest and build a community of followers on the West Coast.

Heritage, Scale and Brand Footprint

Founded in 1976 in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, Beams started as a single boutique and has grown into one of Japan’s most influential fashion and lifestyle retailers. According to recent data, the company operates around 167 stores in Japan and 10 overseas stores in key fashion cities such as London, Paris and Milan, and counts more than 30 proprietary sub‑brands spanning menswear, womenswear, accessories and cultural lifestyle segments.

The Los Angeles flagship forms part of Beams’ 50th anniversary strategy in 2026, which also includes new retail formats in Japan, enhanced lifestyle offerings and a strengthened international retail presence as the brand positions itself for sustained global growth.

While Beams remains privately held and revenue figures are not officially disclosed, industry sources suggest annual revenue approaching ¥89 billion (approx. $570 million) for the fiscal year ending 2024, with growth targets aligned with its anniversary year.

Retail analysts say the Los Angeles flagship could act as a catalyst for further expansion across North America, particularly in major urban markets such as New York, Chicago and Miami. The brand’s unique positioning, a multi‑category lifestyle retailer with fashion, art, design and community programming, enhances its appeal to potential franchise partners and strategic retail investors.
