Social media food critic Keith Lee has invested in Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, marking his entry into restaurant ownership through a multi-year strategic partnership with the fast-growing brand.
The move signals a shift from reviewer to stakeholder for Lee, whose online presence has built a loyal following and the ability to drive significant consumer traffic to restaurants he features.
Brooklyn Dumpling Shop, an Asian-inspired fast-casual concept known for serving global flavours in dumpling form, currently operates more than 20 locations across the United States and Canada. The brand has been expanding through a mix of company-owned and franchised outlets, while also building a presence in retail through packaged products.
Strategic Partnership to Support Expansion
As part of the agreement, Lee will not only invest in the business but also actively support brand growth through marketing, store visits and community-led events. The partnership is aimed at strengthening consumer engagement as the company scales its footprint.
The collaboration was recently activated at the brand’s Dallas outlet, where Lee made an appearance and interacted with customers, generating strong footfall and social media traction. The brand is also expected to participate in Lee’s upcoming “FamiLee Day” event in New Orleans, further blending digital influence with on-ground consumer experiences.
Company leadership said the partnership aligns with its focus on authenticity and customer trust, highlighting Lee’s credibility among consumers as a key factor behind the deal.
“Keith has built his reputation on great food, authenticity, and trust, which is what we’re all about,” said Jeff Galletly, Chairman and CEO of Brooklyn Dumpling Shop. He added that Lee’s decision to invest validates the company’s long-term vision and strengthens its value proposition for franchisees and partners.
Creator-Led Growth Strategy
Lee said his decision to partner with the brand was driven by its product and positioning.
“I’ve always believed that food brings people together,” Lee said, adding that the brand is “creative” and “accessible.”
He further noted: “Partnering is about more than just great food, it’s about community, culture, and creating experiences people can enjoy and trust.”
In a separate interaction, Lee also highlighted the brand’s potential, saying he admired “the innovation” and “the business mind” behind it, and saw opportunities to “bring the community together.”
Franchise Relevance
The development highlights a growing trend in franchising, where brands are partnering with digital creators to accelerate growth and visibility. Such collaborations are increasingly helping reduce customer acquisition costs while creating immediate brand awareness, particularly among younger audiences who rely heavily on social media for food discovery.
With Lee’s investment, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop is expected to strengthen its expansion pipeline, positioning itself as a franchise brand that combines physical scale with digital influence.
