Charcoal Grill Shinpachi Opens First Singapore Restaurant, Marking First Overseas Launch

Date:

Japanese grilled-fish chain Charcoal Grill Shinpachi is set to make its international debut in Singapore, with its first overseas restaurant opening at NEX in Serangoon on August 15, 2026.

The Singapore restaurant is operated by RE&S Enterprises Pte Ltd and marks the first overseas launch of Shinpachi, the international name for Japan’s Shinpachi Shokudo. The chain has more than 100 restaurants in Japan and specialises in cooked-to-order charcoal-grilled fish served as Japanese teishoku set meals.

The new outlet is located at 23 Serangoon Central, #B1-80A, NEX, Singapore 556083, and will operate daily from 11am to 10pm, with the last order at 9.30pm, according to RE&S.

Shinpachi’s Singapore concept centres on himono, a traditional Japanese preparation in which fish is lightly salted and carefully air-dried before being grilled over charcoal. RE&S describes the format as an everyday Japanese dining experience, with the fish served as complete teishoku meals alongside rice, miso soup and sides.

The Singapore menu will feature 10 charcoal-grilled fish teishoku sets, with prices starting at S$8.90. Current menu information includes dishes such as Saba Bunka Boshi, Hokke Set Half and Salmon Harasu, alongside other grilled fish varieties and non-fish options.

For its opening weekend, the restaurant is also offering three signature fish sets: Saba Bunka Boshi, Hokke Set Half and Salmon Harasu at S$8.80 each on August 15 and 16. Their regular prices range from S$11.90 to S$18.90.

The Singapore opening comes as Shinpachi enters a new phase of growth under Skylark Holdings. Shinpachi Shokudo joined the Skylark Group in April 2026, when it had 110 stores. Skylark has said it plans to expand the brand to 131 stores by the end of October 2026, while also pursuing international expansion.

Skylark’s strategy positions Shinpachi as part of its expansion in the lower-priced restaurant segment, with the company highlighting the brand’s focus on dried and grilled fish and its potential to take the Japanese dining format into international markets.

For RE&S, the Singapore launch adds another Japanese concept to its portfolio. The group operates a range of Japanese restaurant and food brands in Singapore, including Ichiban Boshi, Sushi-GO, Yakiniku-GO, Ramen Kiou and Gokoku Japanese Bakery. Charcoal Grill Shinpachi is being presented as part of the group’s &JOY Japanese food offering at NEX.

The opening gives Shinpachi its first opportunity to test the overseas market after building a network of more than 100 restaurants in Japan. It also comes at a time when its parent, Skylark, is actively looking to take its restaurant brands beyond Japan, making Singapore an important first step in Shinpachi’s international expansion.
