Cộng Cà Phê Takes Vietnamese Coffee Concept Into Indonesia

Date:

Vietnamese coffee chain Cộng Cà Phê is entering Indonesia with its first Jakarta outlet at Gandaria City in South Jakarta, with the store expected to open in the coming months. The launch marks the Hanoi-founded brand’s latest international expansion into Southeast Asia.

The Gandaria City outlet will serve Cộng’s signature Vietnamese Coconut Coffee, alongside traditional Vietnamese coffee, non-coffee beverages and Vietnamese-inspired dishes. Coffee beans and key ingredients will be imported from Vietnam, according to the company.

Cộng said the debut is intended to maintain its Vietnamese heritage while creating an authentic café experience for Indonesian consumers.

The first Jakarta store will also act as a test of the market. Cộng has indicated that any broader Indonesian rollout will depend on the performance of the Gandaria City location.

Founded in Hanoi in 2007 by performance artist Linh Dung, Cộng Cà Phê has built its brand around Vietnamese coffee culture and a nostalgic Vietnam-inspired café concept. Its first international franchise opened in Seoul, South Korea, in 2018. The company subsequently expanded through franchise and licensing arrangements into Malaysia, Canada, Taiwan and the Philippines, while its international store network has also included France.

Cộng’s own franchise information describes its international model as a master-franchise system, supported by training, operating systems, marketing and ongoing support. The company says it has developed an international franchise network of more than 30 locations, while its current corporate “Our Story” page describes the overall network as nearly 100 stores across Vietnam and international markets.

The brand’s international expansion began with its Seoul franchise in 2018, followed by its first Malaysian store at Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, in November 2019. Cộng’s international history records 21 international stores by 2019, after entering Canada and establishing a presence in three countries outside Vietnam.

For franchise partners, Cộng says it provides its operating system, service and support, training for franchisees and employees, and marketing and advertising support. Its published Canadian franchise programme, for example, lists minimum financial qualifications of US$100,000 in unborrowed funds and US$250,000 net worth. However, Cộng does not publish a universal franchise fee, investment cost or royalty rate for all international markets, so those figures should not be attributed specifically to the Indonesian deal.
