Taco Bell Expands into Paraguay as QSRs Double Down on Emerging Markets

Date:

Taco Bell is preparing to enter Paraguay, marking a strategic move in its aggressive international growth plan and underscoring rising interest in underpenetrated Latin American markets among global quick-service restaurant (QSR) brands.

The brand will enter through a franchise partnership with South Food S.A., part of the Biedermann business group, which already operates multiple international food brands in the country. The collaboration is expected to fast-track market entry by leveraging local operational expertise and supply chain capabilities.

Initial investment in the market is estimated at around $3 million, with plans to launch three outlets within the first year. The first store is expected to open by December, positioning the brand to tap into growing urban demand for global dining experiences.

The move aligns with Taco Bell’s broader ambition to significantly expand its international footprint. Parent company Yum! Brands has been accelerating global development, with Taco Bell targeting over 3,000 international restaurants by 2030.

Paraguay has increasingly attracted global F&B brands, driven by a steadily evolving consumer base and rising demand for organised foodservice. International chains such as Starbucks, Subway and Popeyes have entered the market in recent years, intensifying competition and expanding consumer choice.

Taco Bell’s entry is expected to further diversify the local QSR landscape, introducing its Tex-Mex menu as a differentiated offering compared to dominant burger and fried chicken formats. Industry observers note that such entries typically drive innovation in menu development, pricing strategies and customer experience, while also contributing to job creation and investment inflows.

The Paraguay foray comes as Taco Bell continues to build momentum globally, with a strong focus on menu innovation, digital integration and franchise-led expansion. The latest move reinforces a broader industry trend, as international QSR players increasingly turn to emerging markets to unlock the next phase of growth.
