Slim Chickens Taps Maureen DiStefano to Drive Franchise Growth

Date:

Slim Chickens has appointed Maureen DiStefano as Director of Franchise Development, bringing more than two decades of experience across franchising, restaurant development and multi-unit growth as the fast-casual chicken brand continues to expand its franchise network.

In her new role, DiStefano will focus on growing Slim Chickens’ franchise system across the U.S., working with qualified multi-unit operators and supporting expansion through traditional restaurants, drive-thru locations and non-traditional formats. She will work alongside Shakon “Shak” Turner, Vice President of Domestic Franchise Growth, as the brand targets further growth across the Midwest, Northeast, Upper Southeast and West Coast.

DiStefano has held franchise and development roles with brands including Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Dunkin’, Starbucks, GNC, Magnolia Bakery International, Inspire Brands and Checkers & Rally’s. Her experience includes franchise sales, market expansion, franchisee relations and multi-unit development. She is also a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE).

“My experience has taught me how important it is to understand both the franchisee and guest experience as a brand grows,” DiStefano said. She added that Slim Chickens has significant opportunity to enter markets where the brand does not yet have a presence.

Matt Green, Chief Development Officer at Slim Chickens, said DiStefano’s franchise experience will support the company’s next stage of growth. “Maureen has spent her career building those kinds of relationships. She understands what franchisees need, she leads with authenticity, and she’s exactly the type of person we want representing the Slim Chickens brand as we continue growing,” Green said.

Founded in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2003 by Tom Gordon and Greg Smart, Slim Chickens opened its first franchised restaurant in 2013. The brand has since expanded into a global franchise system, with more than 300 locations and a significant pipeline of units in development.

The brand operates across the U.S. and international markets including the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Turkey and the Philippines, with further franchise opportunities available across international markets.

Slim Chickens has also been strengthening its development proposition for existing and prospective franchisees. In 2026, the company introduced a Development Fund Program offering qualifying franchisees payments of up to $200,000 per restaurant for certain new in-line and drive-thru endcap locations through 2028. The initiative is intended to encourage multi-unit development and increase market density.

The franchise model is centered on Slim Chickens’ menu of hand-breaded chicken tenders, wings, sandwiches, wraps, salads and Chicken & Waffles, supported by its signature sauces. Franchisees receive support across areas including site selection, real estate, restaurant design and construction, training, operations and marketing.

DiStefano’s appointment comes as Slim Chickens continues to build its franchise-development team and pursue growth through experienced operators, multi-unit development and expansion into new domestic and international markets.
