Seafood boil chain Angry Crab Shack is stepping up its expansion plans, with a clear focus on scaling its franchise network across the United States and key international markets.
The Asian-Cajun concept, founded in 2013, is actively seeking multi-unit franchise partners as it looks to accelerate growth beyond its current base of over 25 locations spanning the U.S. and the U.K. The company’s latest push signals a shift from steady expansion to a more aggressive, multi-market development strategy.
In the U.S., the brand is targeting high-growth states such as Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Washington, while also exploring opportunities in emerging franchise territories including Colorado, Indiana, and South Carolina. The Midwest is also part of its next phase of development as the company looks to deepen its national footprint.

On the international front, Angry Crab Shack is building on its early presence in London, which serves as a gateway to wider European expansion. The company is now in discussions with potential partners across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Gulf region, including markets like Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.
The expansion strategy is anchored in a franchise model designed for scalability. In addition to traditional franchising, the company operates an “operating partner” structure that allows experienced operators to run locations while sharing in performance, helping maintain consistency as the brand grows.
Angry Crab Shack is also leveraging a flexible real estate approach, often utilizing second-generation restaurant spaces to keep build-out costs relatively low. This has made the concept more accessible for franchisees, particularly in competitive urban markets where capital efficiency is critical.
The brand’s growth ambitions are supported by strong unit-level performance. Top-performing outlets have reported average unit volumes exceeding $3 million, while systemwide sales have continued to trend upward, reinforcing investor interest in the concept.
At the core of its appeal is a differentiated dining experience centred on customisable seafood boils with Asian-Cajun flavours. The hands-on, social format where diners select seafood, sauces, and spice levels, has helped the brand carve out a niche in the casual dining segment and attract younger consumers.
Looking ahead, Angry Crab Shack has set its sights on reaching 100 locations globally by the end of the decade. With a growing international pipeline and a sharpened franchise focus, the company is positioning itself for its next phase of expansion in the global restaurant franchise market.
