Bed Bath & Beyond has agreed to acquire The Container Store in a deal valued at approximately $150 million, marking a significant step in its ongoing turnaround and push into home services.
The transaction, structured through a mix of stock and convertible notes, includes The Container Store’s key brands Elfa and Closet Works, and is expected to close by July 2026.
The acquisition will bring more than 100 physical locations into Bed Bath & Beyond’s network, with stores set to be co-branded as “The Container Store / Bed Bath and Beyond.”
The move is part of a broader strategy by parent company Beyond Inc. to rebuild its brick-and-mortar presence following the retailer’s 2023 bankruptcy and reposition the business as a full-scale home solutions platform.
“This transaction will fill critical gaps in both our retail and home services strategy,” said Executive Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis in a shareholder letter. “As we build our company platform, any additional assets including talent must serve a clear purpose to our company’s long-term strategy.”
The Container Store’s specialisation in storage and organization is expected to anchor Bed Bath & Beyond’s growing home services vertical, which will expand beyond retail into design, customisation and installation offerings.
Post-acquisition, stores will introduce new categories such as flooring, lighting, and cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry spaces, signalling a shift toward higher-margin, service-led revenue streams.
Lemonis described the deal as “a critical step” in the company’s next growth phase, aligning with its three-pillar strategy spanning omnichannel retail, products and services, and home services.
The combined entity is also targeting operational efficiencies, with expectations of roughly $40 million in annualised cost savings within 12 to 18 months of integration.
The acquisition comes after both retailers navigated financial challenges in recent years, with The Container Store emerging from bankruptcy in 2025 and Bed Bath & Beyond undergoing a high-profile restructuring and brand revival under Beyond Inc.
With this deal, Bed Bath & Beyond is accelerating its ambition to build what it calls an “everything home ecosystem,” combining retail, services and home solutions under a unified platform.
