South Korean law firm JIPYONG LLC has published a new “Franchise Legal Handbook” focused on franchise regulations and legal frameworks across China and four major Southeast Asian markets, as Asian franchise expansion gains momentum among Korean brands.
According to the firm, the handbook covers franchise-related legal systems in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, providing guidance for companies expanding internationally in sectors such as foodservice, retail and education.
The publication comes as more Korean franchise operators accelerate overseas growth strategies across Asia, particularly in high-growth emerging markets. Jipyong noted that franchise expansion requires far more than product exports, involving complex legal considerations including intellectual property licensing, technology transfer, disclosure obligations and the establishment of local operational systems.
The law firm said the handbook was developed to help Korean companies reduce operational and regulatory risks caused by unfamiliarity with local business practices and franchise laws in overseas markets.
Founded in 2000, Jipyong is one of Korea’s leading law firms and has built a strong cross-border legal practice across Asia. The firm operates overseas offices in markets including China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Russia and Hungary, with extensive advisory experience in international investment, M&A, finance, infrastructure and dispute resolution.
Jipyong has also expanded its international advisory capabilities in recent years, including the launch of an India-focused legal practice to support Korean businesses entering the Indian market.
