U.S. based superfruit bowl brand Playa Bowls is set to enter Canada with its first-ever location, signing a lease at The Well in downtown Toronto as part of its international expansion strategy.
Founded in 2014, the fast-growing brand has built a franchise-heavy system of nearly 400 locations, the majority of which are franchised. The company added 85 new shops in 2025 alone and has secured more than 200 franchise commitments, underscoring strong operator demand and a deep development pipeline as it scales beyond the U.S.
The Toronto outlet, spanning approximately 1,700 square feet, will open within the high-profile mixed-use development at the intersection of Spadina Avenue and Front Street, one of the city’s busiest urban corridors. The launch is expected in 2026, marking a flagship-led entry into the Canadian market.
The move is part of Playa Bowls’ broader international push through its Canadian master franchise partner, Eat Up Canada Inc., which has signed a long-term agreement to develop more than 160 locations nationwide.
“Canada has one of the most sophisticated restaurant markets in North America, and consumers here quickly recognize concepts that feel authentic and distinctive,” said George Heos, co-founder of Eat Up Canada. “Playa Bowls brings a fresh perspective to the fast-casual space.”
For Playa Bowls, the Toronto debut represents a pivotal step in its global growth journey. “Expanding into Canada is a major milestone for Playa Bowls, and launching our first international location in a world-class city like Toronto is a strong way to begin that next chapter,” said CEO John Cappasola in the company’s press release.
Known for its acai, pitaya, and coconut bowls, along with smoothies and juices, Playa Bowls has built a strong following with its health-forward menu and beach-inspired brand identity.
The Well, emerging as a key destination for international retail and dining brands, signals Playa Bowls’ intent to establish a premium, high-visibility presence from the outset. With a 160-unit development pipeline already in place and a rapidly expanding franchise network, Canada is poised to become a significant growth market for the brand.
