Chow Tai Fook Opens First Global Flagship, Elevates Luxury Retail Playbook

Date:

Hong Kong-based jewellery giant Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group has unveiled its first global flagship store in Tsim Sha Tsui, marking a major milestone in the company’s ongoing brand transformation and international luxury retail expansion. The new flagship, located on Canton Road, one of Asia’s most prestigious luxury shopping destinations, opened on May 15 under the concept “Home of Chow Tai Fook.”

Spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, the flagship is the company’s largest store in the Hong Kong and Macau market. Designed as an immersive luxury destination, the store blends nearly a century of Chinese jewellery heritage with contemporary retail experiences and artisanal craftsmanship.

At the heart of the flagship is the Heritage Pavilion, which traces Chow Tai Fook’s journey since its founding in 1929 while showcasing traditional jewellery-making techniques such as filigree, hammering, and chasing. The brand said it collaborated with leading cultural and academic institutions to help preserve these ancient gold craftsmanship traditions.

One of the store’s centrepieces is the Gold Ginkgo Tree, a 2.1-metre-tall installation crafted with around 3,500 pure gold leaves and weighing nearly 40 kilograms. According to the company, the installation involved nearly 50 master craftsmen and close to 60,000 hours of work.

The flagship also marks the debut of “Chow Tai Fook Home,” the company’s new luxury home décor category developed in partnership with French porcelain maison Bernardaud. The move reflects the retailer’s ambitions to evolve beyond jewellery into a broader luxury lifestyle brand.

In its official announcement, the company described the store as a destination that aims to “redefine luxury through immersive experience,” combining oriental aesthetics with modern luxury retail.

The launch comes as Chow Tai Fook accelerates its global expansion amid slowing domestic demand and changing consumer trends in China. Earlier this year, the company opened a flagship store in Bangkok and announced plans to expand further into Australia, Canada, Dubai, and Doha.

While the newly opened Tsim Sha Tsui flagship is company-operated, Chow Tai Fook’s broader retail ecosystem does include franchised and licensed partner-operated stores, particularly across lower-tier cities in Mainland China. The hybrid retail model has played a significant role in helping the company scale its network over the years, although its premium global flagships and international stores are primarily directly managed to maintain tighter brand and customer experience control.
