Global supplemental education franchise Mathnasium Learning Centres has strengthened its expansion momentum in the first half of 2026, signing more than 60 franchise agreements and opening 40 new learning centres across North America as demand for personalized math education continues to rise. The company said the growth reflects strong confidence from both new franchisees and existing multi-unit operators, while reinforcing its long-term strategy of investing in technology, customer experience and franchise support.
The education franchise, which now operates more than 1,300 learning centres across 12 countries, said its latest expansion builds on a record 2025, when it awarded 121 franchise agreements and opened 88 new centres worldwide, further cementing its position as one of the world’s largest math-only education franchise systems.
“Families are making a deliberate investment in their children’s education, even as they carefully weigh every household expense,” said Tyler Sgro, Chief Executive Officer of Mathnasium. “That tells us that supplemental learning is no longer viewed as an extra, but rather an essential part of how many families help their children build confidence, close learning gaps and prepare for future success. As the education landscape becomes increasingly crowded and complex, we see an opportunity to strengthen what has always set Mathnasium apart: personalized instruction powered by meaningful human interaction.”
The company attributed its strong performance to continued investment from existing franchisees, particularly multi-centre operators expanding into new territories, alongside a growing pipeline of new entrepreneurs entering the system. According to Mathnasium, same-centre performance has also continued to improve, supported by sustained consumer demand for supplemental learning services.
Kevin Shen, Chief Financial Officer of Mathnasium, said the company’s growth is being driven by both franchisee confidence and increasing demand from families. “Our momentum this year is being driven by two factors: the continued confidence of our existing franchisees and the quality of the entrepreneurs joining the system. Same-centre performance continues to build momentum, our most engaged multi-centre operators continue to reinvest in the brand, and families continue to prioritize high-quality learning support.”
Beyond unit expansion, Mathnasium is investing in new curriculum enhancements, digital learning tools, improved student progress reporting and upgrades to its mobile application to create a more connected experience for students, parents and franchisees. The company has also increased national brand visibility through partnerships with the Museum of Ice Cream, which generated more than one billion media impressions during a Pi Day campaign, and financial technology company Greenlight, which collaborated with Mathnasium on financial literacy initiatives during Financial Literacy Month.
The company believes market conditions remain favourable as parents increasingly seek additional academic support for their children. While U.S. math performance has shown signs of recovery among younger students, overall achievement levels remain below pre-pandemic standards. At the same time, the global private tutoring market is projected to grow by more than US$32 billion by 2030, providing a strong tailwind for education-focused franchise brands.
Mathnasium has also received several industry accolades this year, including recognition among Entrepreneur’s Top Education Franchises and Franchise Business Review’s Culture100, reflecting strong franchisee satisfaction and system performance.
Founded in 2002 by educators Larry Martinek, David Ullendorff and Peter Markovitz, Mathnasium began franchising in 2003 and has grown into one of the world’s largest supplemental math education brands. The company specializes exclusively in mathematics instruction for students from pre-kindergarten through high school through its proprietary Mathnasium Method, which focuses on building conceptual understanding and number sense. Today, the brand operates more than 1,300 centers in 12 countries and continues to target expansion opportunities across North America.
According to the company’s latest franchise information, the estimated initial investment ranges from US$127,316 to US$165,846, with a US$49,000 initial franchise fee, making it one of the leading franchise opportunities in the education sector.
