Tortilla Mexican Grill Posts Stronger Sales, Speeds Up UK Expansion Despite French Reset

Date:

UK-based fast-casual restaurant chain Tortilla Mexican Grill has reported stronger sales momentum and reaffirmed its expansion strategy in the United Kingdom, even as it continues to restructure its underperforming French operations.

The company said group revenue and like-for-like sales improved during the latest trading period, supported by resilient consumer demand, increased footfall across its UK estate, and continued growth in travel-hub locations. Management said the business remains on track to deliver its full-year expectations while prioritizing profitable expansion and operational efficiency.

Tortilla also confirmed that its UK development pipeline remains active, with new restaurant openings planned across high streets, retail destinations and transport hubs. The company has increasingly focused on franchise-led international growth alongside company-operated restaurants in the UK.

The update comes as Tortilla continues resetting its French business after weaker-than-expected trading in the market. The company has been reviewing its French portfolio to improve profitability, streamline operations and focus resources on stronger-performing locations. Management indicated that the French restructuring is progressing as planned and is expected to strengthen the group’s long-term financial performance.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Naylor said the business has delivered encouraging trading despite a challenging consumer environment, highlighting the strength of the brand and its operational model. “We are pleased with the continued positive sales momentum in the UK. While we are taking decisive action in France, our core UK business continues to perform well, giving us confidence to accelerate our expansion plans.”

The company added that its strategy remains focused on disciplined site selection, enhancing customer experience, expanding digital ordering channels and improving restaurant-level profitability.

Founded in 2007, Tortilla has grown into one of the UK’s largest Mexican fast-casual restaurant brands. The company operates across company-owned and franchised locations and has an international presence in the Middle East through franchise partnerships. In 2022, Tortilla strengthened its market position through the acquisition of Mexican restaurant chain Chilango.
