Fast-casual chicken chain Zaxbys has entered New York, opening its first-ever restaurants in New York City as the brand continues its push into major metropolitan markets across the Northeast. The expansion marks a significant milestone for the Atlanta-born chain, bringing its footprint to 24 states and reinforcing its strategy of growing beyond its traditional Southern stronghold.
The company has launched its first New York restaurant in the Bronx at 3260 Boston Road, which began serving customers following a soft opening on June 29. The approximately 2,000-square-foot restaurant offers dine-in seating for 15 guests alongside drive-thru service. A second location is scheduled to open later this summer at 1267 First Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, occupying more than 2,800 square feet and featuring self-ordering kiosks and seating for 16 guests.
The New York debut comes as Zaxbys continues an aggressive national expansion campaign after surpassing 1,000 restaurants earlier this year. The company has signed multiple franchise development agreements across new territories including Illinois, Ohio, Missouri and Pennsylvania, while strengthening its presence throughout the Midwest and Northeast.
“Our expansion into New York represents a defining moment for Zaxbys as we continue building a truly national brand,” said Bernard Acoca, Chief Executive Officer of Zaxbys. “New Yorkers are known for embracing bold flavours and iconic food experiences, making this an exciting opportunity to introduce our Famous Fingerz™, signature sauces and Southern hospitality to one of the world’s greatest food cities.”
To celebrate the launch, the company said it will introduce exclusive local activations and menu experiences inspired by New York’s food culture, alongside grand opening events designed to engage customers in both boroughs.
Founded in 1990 in Statesboro, Georgia, by childhood friends Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley, Zaxbys has built its reputation around hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz™, wings, sandwiches, salads and its portfolio of 12 signature sauces. The brand has increasingly positioned itself as a premium player within the fast-growing chicken category while modernizing its restaurants, digital ordering capabilities and loyalty platform.
The New York expansion aligns with the company’s broader franchise growth strategy. Earlier this year, Zaxbys appointed Russell Holland as Chief Development Officer to lead its next phase of development as it targets additional white-space markets nationwide. According to company data, the brand generated approximately $2.8 billion in system sales during 2025, reflecting continued momentum in both restaurant development and franchise performance.
Industry analysts view the New York launch as an important test for Zaxbys’ ability to compete in one of the country’s most competitive restaurant markets, where national chicken chains have been expanding rapidly amid sustained consumer demand for chicken-focused quick-service concepts.
