Unleashed Brands, one of the world’s largest youth enrichment franchise platforms, has appointed James Franks as its new Chief Franchise Officer, bringing back a seasoned franchise development leader who previously played a key role in the company’s rapid expansion.
Franks returns to Unleashed Brands after serving as Head of Franchise Growth at WellBiz Brands. In his new role, he will oversee franchise development and recruitment initiatives across the company’s portfolio of seven youth-focused franchise brands: Urban Air, The Little Gym, Sylvan Learning, Snapology, Class 101, Premier Martial Arts, and Water Wings Swim School.
The appointment marks a homecoming for Franks, who previously spent nearly six years with Unleashed Brands, including serving as Vice President of Franchise Recruiting from 2019 to 2025. During that tenure, he helped award more than 330 franchise locations and supported the company’s transformation into a multi-brand youth enrichment platform. Today, Unleashed Brands serves millions of children annually through a network of more than 1,500 locations nationwide.
Franks brings more than 25 years of experience in franchise development, franchise recruitment, and multi-brand growth strategies. Throughout his career, he has built and led franchise development programs designed to drive sustainable expansion while maintaining strong franchisee relationships and long-term brand performance.
Announcing the appointment, Michael Browning Jr., Founder and CEO of Unleashed Brands, highlighted Franks’ longstanding connection with the company and its mission. “James isn’t just a great franchise development leader, he’s someone who helped build this company alongside us,” said Browning. “I’ve known James for years and have seen firsthand the passion, experience and leadership he brings to an organization. He understands our brands, believes in our mission and knows what makes a great franchise partner.”
Browning added that Franks’ return comes at an important time as the company continues to expand its national footprint and support more families through its youth-focused brands.
Commenting on his return, Franks said the opportunity felt deeply personal. “Returning to Unleashed Brands feels like coming home,” Franks said. “Having spent nearly six years with the organization, I’ve seen firsthand the impact our brands have on kids, families and franchisees. The opportunity ahead is tremendous, and I’m excited to help more entrepreneurs bring these brands to their communities while continuing to expand our impact on families nationwide.”
Founded by Michael Browning Jr., Unleashed Brands has grown into a major force in youth enrichment franchising through a portfolio of category-leading brands focused on helping children learn, play, and grow. The company has built its platform through a combination of acquisitions, franchise expansion, and operational support for family-focused businesses. Its current portfolio includes Urban Air, The Little Gym, Sylvan Learning, Snapology, Class 101, Premier Martial Arts, and Water Wings Swim School.
The leadership move underscores Unleashed Brands’ continued emphasis on franchise-led growth as it seeks to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs while strengthening its position in the youth enrichment sector. With Franks returning to lead franchise development, the company is expected to accelerate recruitment efforts across its growing brand portfolio.
