Nike Cuts 1,400 Jobs as ‘Win Now’ Strategy Gains Pace

Date:

Nike is cutting approximately 1,400 roles across its global operations as part of its “Win Now” turnaround strategy, underscoring a major organizational reset aimed at improving speed, efficiency, and long-term growth.

The job reductions were detailed in a company memo authored by Chief Operating Officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy and published on Nike’s website. According to the memo, the majority of the layoffs will impact the company’s technology division, as Nike consolidates its tech footprint and accelerates the adoption of automation across key functions.

The move is part of a broader effort to simplify Nike’s operating model, eliminate duplication, and align resources more closely with its most critical growth priorities. The company has been actively restructuring its teams to support faster decision-making and a more agile business structure in response to shifting consumer behaviour and intensifying global competition.

A Nike spokesperson said, “We are reshaping parts of our organization to reduce complexity, strengthen our focus, and better position the business for long-term growth. While these decisions are difficult, they are necessary to ensure we are operating as effectively as possible.”

Nike has been increasing its investments in automation, data analytics, and digital capabilities, particularly across supply chain, merchandising, and consumer engagement. These changes are expected to enhance operational efficiency while supporting the company’s expanding direct-to-consumer and partner-led retail network worldwide.

The restructuring reflects a wider trend across global retail and franchise-driven businesses, where companies are balancing cost discipline with continued investment in scalable technology platforms. For Nike, the shift is closely tied to its efforts to modernize operations while maintaining strong relationships with wholesale and franchise partners across international markets.

Despite the workforce reduction, Nike continues to prioritize innovation, product development, and global expansion. The company remains focused on strengthening its retail ecosystem, including both owned and partner-operated stores, as it executes its turnaround strategy.

The layoffs mark one of the most significant workforce adjustments at Nike in recent years, highlighting the scale of transformation underway as the company repositions itself for its next phase of growth.
